Community C.O.R.E. (Coalition for Opiate Relief Efforts) in Logan County

Community C.O.R.E. Coalition for Opiate Relief Efforts
The Community Coalition for Opiate Relief Efforts brings together organizations and community leaders to provide answers for those with questions and direction to those who feel lost in the struggle against opiate addiction.

Our Mission Statement: To develop and implement a multi-faceted plan, through collective partnerships that focus on prevention, treatment and long term recovery, in an effort to reduce misuse of prescription drugs and the use of illegal opiates among citizens of Logan County.
We have 4 strategy teams that work towards accomplishing different goals to fight the opiate and drug epidemic in Logan County. These teams are:
  1. Medical/ Harm Reduction Team: Looking at the issue from a Medical/Public Health perspective to pursue areas of impact that can reduce overdose deaths and provide services/supports that improve opportunities for successful recovery.
  2. Legal Team: Working to reduce the drug supply, increase consequences for dealers and developing relationships with legislative reps that can provide resources/opportunities for Logan County and increasing accountability and supports for those involved in the criminal justice system to reduce recidivism and relapse.
  3. Prevention/ Education Team: Efforts are targeted toward reducing the number of people engaging in misuse of Rx drugs or other substances. Also emphasizing prevention for our youth.
  4. Treatment Team: Working on increased access to MAT, improved integrated care with medical/tx communities, recovery housing, peer supports, and faith based supports.

  C.O.R.E. Values & Principles:

1. Addiction is a disease---it is not a character flaw.

2. Treatment works. People can and do recover and thrive again after addiction.

3. Every life has value.

4. Collaboration between recovering individuals, family members, community members, churches, funding entities, employers, medical practitioners, public health, child welfare, education, treatment providers, courts, law enforcement and legislative law makers is necessary to achieve the goal of reducing opiate abuse in Logan County.

5. The use of evidence based practices in the prevention, assessment, intervention and treatment of addiction is vital.

6. The link between misuse of Rx opiates and heroin is significant.

7. Multiple doses of prevention over one’s lifetime provides the most effective prevention for future drug abuse.

CORE (Coalition for Opiate Relief Efforts) Dinner

A training with Dr. Brad Lander (top slideshow) was held on 9/29/16 at the Crossroad Business Center Conference Room in Bellefontaine. This training was sponsored by Community CORE (Coalition for Opiate Relief Efforts) of Logan County.  We had around 90 people in attendance and the training went from 1-3:30 in the afternoon. The training was entitled Understanding Addiction: Squirrel Logic. Dr. Lander provided information and insights into why addiction is now being looked at and discussed as a chronic brain disease and the science behind it. It was a good training with great information.
The CORE (Coalition for Opiate Relief Efforts) Dinner (bottom slideshow) was held later that evening at the First Church of God. It was a 2-hour long event that featured Dr. Brad Lander as the keynote speaker. There was recognition of those in recovery and are leading successful lives after going through addiction and the recovery process. Also, each group within the CORE Coalition spoke about its efforts in community to make Logan County Drug-Free and to help those struggling with addiction. The purpose behind the dinner was to bring a community of people together for education and awareness of what is happening in Logan County. Among residents in attendance, we had judges from other counties, local law enforcement, and even state representative Robert Sprague came to the dinner and spoke. It was a successful night full of emotion!!
